June 27, 1858

Although we celebrated our Anniversary Mass with Bishop Loverde on June 20 to accommodate his schedule to be able to be with us, the actual anniversary date of the parish and the laying of the cornerstone of the church on Princess Anne Street was 27 June. 150 years ago the “Fredericksburg Mission,” as it was called in Richmond, was established with a gift of $3,000: $500 to buy the land, and $2,500 to build the neo-Gothic church which was the home of St. Mary for the next 123 years. Fredericksburg United Methodist Church recently bought the old church as a center for religious education. The current facility was built under the leadership of Father Sikora with the money earned from the sale of the old church.
