“The Great Adventure is a Catholic Bible learning system that makes the complex simple by teaching the story (the narrative) of the Bible. Jeff Cavins developed The Great Adventure in 1984 when he realized that most people, despite their strong faith, did not grasp the big picture of the Bible. Though they knew selected stories, they were not able to connect them into a full narrative. His answer was to identify the books of the Bible that tell the story from beginning to end. By reading just these 14 narrative books, a chronological story emerges.

From this idea grew the immensely popular Bible Timeline program, which teaches the story in a way that is easy to remember and helps people to continue reading Scripture on their own. Hundreds of thousands of Catholics have learned to read the Bible through this system, which provides a solid foundation for all other reading and study.

Since the creation of The Bible Timeline, The Great Adventure has grown into a remarkable system designed to give the average Catholic a solid foundation for a lifetime of Bible reading. Parishes around the world are finding renewed faith and increased involvement among parishioners whose lives have been changed by this exciting study series.

The Mom’s Group has begun (9/17/10)  A Quick Journey Through the Bible: An 8-Part Introduction to the Bible Timeline by Jeff Cavins

The Mom’s Group meets every Friday morning at 10:00am in the John Paul II House.  Babysitting is provided.  All women in the parish are warmly invited.  Contact Barb Frasher with any questions at rbfrasher@cox.net or 540-286-0038.

“This is an 8-part introduction to the Bible Timeline learning system.  This study is designed to give the student a brief overview of salvation history, from Genesis through the resurrection of Christ and the establishment of the Catholic Church.  Students will learn about the spiritual benefits of Bible study and how to enter deeper into "His-story" as they begin their study of the Scriptures.  The topics covered: How to Read the Bible and Explanation of Materials; Early World; The Patriarchs; Egypt and Exodus and Desert Wanderings; Conquest and Judges and Royal Kingdom; Divided Kingdom and Exile; Return from Exile and Maccabean Revolt; Messianic Fulfillment and the Church.”

We view the DVD  and then cover discussion questions in the student workbook; materials can be purchased through Ascension Press, however, really a Bible is all that is needed; Father Lundberg is leading the discussions most weeks.
