Welcome to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church

Just as Jesus welcomes every person with open arms, we at St. Mary welcome the presence and involvement of all of our members – whether they are longtime members, new families, or just recently returning to the Church.  Each person has a unique contribution to make and we welcome you!

St. Mary Church was founded in 1858 and has grown from “The Fredericksburg Mission”, serving 20+ families to currently serving over 3,800 families, that’s 12,900+ parishioners!  You can read more about the history of St. Mary Church by visiting our history link.

St. Mary Church is part of the Arlington Diocese, currently overseen by the Most Reverend Paul Loverde, Bishop of Arlington.  We are blessed with three full-time diocesan priests, Fr. Don Rooney, Pastor, Fr. Ed Bresnahan, Parochial Vicar, and Fr. Bjorn Lundberg, Parochial Vicar.  We have a wonderful support team of staff members on-hand willing and happy to provide you with any assistance you might need.

St. Mary Catholic Church is a Stewardship Parish. We believe that God reveals His perfect and infinite love for us most visibly in His Son, Jesus Christ.  We are called to follow Him.  Using Christ’s example of prayer, gift of self, and generosity we strive as a Parish Family to be living stewards of our many blessings.

We are a vibrant community of faith and have over 80 ministries that serve our community and beyond.  These ministries encompass; education, liturgy, operations, outreach and parish life.  We invite you to get involved in your community!  Please do not hesitate to contact them, information is provided.

Christian formation is a cornerstone of our parish life. We have an excellent religious education program for our adults, teens and children.

Holy Cross Academy is our parish elementary and middle school, teaching K-8.  It is located in South Stafford just 8 miles from our Church. It is administered by the Oblate Sisters of St. Francis de Sales, under the leadership of Sister Susan Louise. Holy Cross Academy has an extraordinarily talented and devoted faculty. Our students grow spiritually, academically, physically and emotionally. We are dedicated to the education of the whole child, and to the good of each child.

St. Mary Preschool is located in the St. Mary Activity Center next to the Church. Our little ones, ages 3 and 4, are nurtured spiritually and academically in a loving environment led by Mrs. Nanci Scharf and her amazing team of teachers.  Oblate Sister, Sister Mary Vincent warmly shares her love of the Catholic faith and her extraordinary proficiency of the French language.  Music abounds in the classrooms as Mrs. Libby Budd shares her instrumental and vocal talents with the children.
